Ex CMD of SCI - Mr. Hajara joins DDI as the Chief Adviser.


Sabyasachi Hajara

Born on Dec 3rd, 1952 Mr. Sabyasachi Hajara is the Ex- CMD of Shipping Corporation of India.  He has ranked among top 100 influential personalities in the international shipping industry between 2010 to 2012 by Trade Winds as well as Lloyd’s List.


Mr. Hajara graduated with First Class Honors in B.Sc. (Chemistry) from Kolkata University in 1970 and was awarded a Silver Medal by his College for proficiency in result. He obtained Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, in 1973 and was ranked 2nd in order of merit and was placed in roll of honors of the Institute. He obtained Post Graduate Diploma in Shipping and Post Graduate Diploma in International Maritime Law & Marine Insurance from the Norwegian Shipping Academy.  In both the PG Diplomas, he secured First Positions in the Order of Merit. Immediately after his post graduation from IIM Kolkata , he was chosen through campus placement by SCI. He commenced his career with Shipping Corporation of India (largest Indian shipping company) in 1973 as a Jr. Executive.
In addition to his portfolio at SCI, Mr. Hajara has been associated with a host of Management and Industry Associations. He has held important positions in industry organizations and institutions such as Indian National Ship-owners Association (INSA), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII),  International Shipping Federation (ISF) and the World Maritime University( WMO) and other chambers.

Mr. Hajara is an eloquent speaker and is much sought after by the national and international maritime fraternity for his lucid and thought-provoking presentations.  He has made presentations in various national and international seminars / conferences on various maritime related issues including bulk shipping, container shipping, LNG shipping, manning and training subjects, HRD topics, etc.
Talking about his awards and accolades, Mr. S. Hajara has been coveted with prestigious “Life-Time Achievement award” for his outstanding contributions to the Shipping Industry at Sailors Today Award ceremony on Apr 21st 2012. At the India Shipping Summit 2007, Mr. Hajara was conferred on the “Innovator Of The Year” award. The SHIPPING & MARINE 2008, supported by CHEMTECH Foundation, has conferred the “Business Leader of the Year Award – for Shipping” on Mr. S. Hajara. Mr. Hajara was privileged to be ranked 43rd among 100 top shipping personalities of the world, by Trade Wind Norway, which was the highest rank among the Indian shipping personalities.  In December 2010, the leading international daily shipping newspaper Lloyd's ListLondon has ranked him 92nd most influential person in shipping in their list of the Top 100 influential people in world which was subsequently upgraded to 80th in the next year December, 2011.

He continued to be in these lists till 2012 i.e till he stepped down as CMD of SCI. Moving ahead Mr. Hajara has joined Doehle Danautic India Pvt. India, a leading shipping company as the Chief advisory. DDI management is confident that with Mr. Hajara on board the company will venture into new avenues.
